Doing sound-performance in a public space at Alexanderplatz was very a stressful experience, with considering strict police controls, the uncertainty of the public dynamics, public’s unpredictable reaction, limited technical control with no access to power supplies. But I am very glad I finally realise the idea of my PhD bringing intimacy back to public space. Under the precarious political situation, it interrogates if the bodily affect translates and raises critical awareness of how ideologies and information systems constrain everyday life, which aims at spurring people into constructing counter-publics to challenge the existing world order.
Thanks to Denis Esakov‘s invite as part of the De_colonialanguage Collective, Marxist Fasęd events, they organized a series of exciting public interventions from decolonial and anti-institutional perspective.
Alexander Platz is a public space which is highly controlled with many surveillance cameras and strict police controls. Augmented Reality interface Erotic Poetics invite viewers to scan the QR code and interact film with performance and the background of Alexanderplatz. The feeding of the information collected from public engagement aims to disrupt and even counteract the hegemonic surveillance regime of Alexander Platz and biased information system.
The forearm of the audience is connected to my ECG heart-rate interactive sculpture Book of Disquiet ‘s Bluetooth reader. The change of the heartbeat from the audience activates the movement of the sculpture, which detects the non-symbolic level of bodily affect evoked from the performance and public space of Alexanderplatz.
Accompanied with reading and touching of clay sculptures, my collaborator Jess Aszodi’s singing improvisation, the entire performance engages with different media between sound, non-human agency, electronic circuit, vocal, augmented reality with an emphasis on using eroticism counteracting censorship and post-colonialism.
