Speaking for the Speechless Robotic Interactive Installation,
Scale:20cm (wide) x 50cm (Height) x 30cm (width)
Material: 3D printing mechanics, motors, Arduino, Bluetooth receiver etc
Within a political system like China, where people are restrained from expressing critical opinions, this robotic sculpture: Speaking for the speechless aims to invite the audience to type their repressed opinions and feelings and speak for their silenced voice.
The inner structure (images attached) is a 3D printed structure which coordinate with 9 motors inside the structure. Each motor oversees different part of the mouth and mimic the movement of the speaking. By inviting viewers to type down their repressed thoughts or feelings, this robotic interactive sculpture will not track the sender’s identity details and speak for the silenced voice.
As Chinese are prohibited to speak out their political opinions in any social interface, this work invites the audience to send their political opinion via the keyboard and keep it anonymous. By filter the personal information, and allow audience’s position being protected, my work encourage the audience to speak freely even under the censorship. Therefore, the work become the agency to speak for people, who are incapable of speaking for their own voice.
The final exhibition plan of this work: I created a multi-sensational sensuous space within my PhD final exhibition Intimate Fantasy at RCA. By presenting with erotic sculptures, hologram installations, films projections and performance in the space, this work will be situated in the centre of my final exhibition, where the sensitivity has been provoked in such sensuous environment and encourage the viewers to express freely through this integrative robotic sculpture.
