In early 2015, personally, I was in charge of the overall cultural curating and design of the project through open bidding. For the time in China, the planning was implemented in Beijing CBD area as the top planning to direct the planning and design of regional traffic, landscape, facilities and business. Strategically, the planning provides the regulatory requirements such as spatial framework, cultural demands, colour system and facilities layout, thus to guide the development of the region’s public space and commercial land, give life to the buildings and streets and create a comfortable, enjoyable, dynamic and memorable space. We will create high-quality public space in CBD core area through the overall planning of public art, and make it become the global economic highland and a destination of culture and art. The planning will be implemented as a regional normative document for the long term. It will also act as adviser to provide long-term tracking service.
As the public art designer of Beijing new airport (Daxing) terminal area, we will adhere to the design tenet of “Art-oriented Urban Design (AUD)” involved in the “special art suitable for the airport”. Generally, it is to take public art as the starting point and integrate each link of the terminal area design (urban planning, architecture, landscape, urban furniture, urban facilities, etc). Through the unique visual aesthetic and cultural carrying capacity of art, we’ll change the single boring space design concept in the past, to increase the interaction with the public and enhance the public’s sense of identity in the new airport terminal. In order to create a more comfortable, efficient and artistic terminal space for the new airport, the construction of airport space is critical in the urban space design.
