I’m truly delighted to be working with Stacie, the artists, and the different teams involved. Many of them are long-time friends, and it’s a real pleasure to be collaborating with them again.
Wandering is not merely a journey, but an act of inhabiting thresholds—where identity, memory, and belonging are constantly renegotiated, like standing where shoreline meets tide. Wind enters not as metaphor but, as vibrant matter: a restless non-human agent carrying unstable messages, drifting without destination, unsettling language and perception. Wind becomes both method and material—disrupting closure and opening pathways across places, species, and ways of knowing.
This exhibition embraces “unbecoming” as both curatorial method and lived condition. Echoing nomadic subject, wandering is not being lost but refusing resolution—remaining porous, open to continual transformation. For diasporic Chinese artists navigating fractured borders, languages, and intimacies, unbecoming resists fixed notions of identity. Their works chart emotional cartographies woven from detours, reverberations, and folds in time.
Through sound, image, gesture, soil, and breath, the artists explore trans-corporeality—the porous entanglement of human and material worlds. A soprano’s anthem fractures, trade data dissolves into noise, plants and heartbeats converse, voices drift on cassette. These enactments show memory’s mutations and returns.
Belonging here: land moves with the wind—momentary, fractured, yet alive in disassembly, always becoming.
Merging sound, visuals, lighting, and tactile interactivity, the piece explores migration and love within today’s shifting landscapes—where technology and politics continuously reshape what belonging means.
A huge thank you to curator Daisy Di Wang and Beingsync platform @beingsync , and the amazing curatorial and editing team who supported the production of this exhibition, hosted by Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop @unit1galleryworkshop .
It would mean so much to share this moment with you.
